Hindu Temple - Staten Island.

The Hindu families residing in Staten Island organized together under the banner of Staten Island Hindu Temple for the purpose of building a temple in the Island for the first time in 1997. The temple was registered by the State of New York as of December 22, 1997 as a not-for-profit organization to foster Hindu religious traditions and ideals in the community. The bylaws of the temple were adopted at a meeting of the Board of Directors held on January 28, 1998. Devotees started assembling on Friday evening every week for prayer in a rented hall.

The temple purchased an old residential house at 1318 Victory Blvd., Staten Island, New York 10301 in June 2001. Congregation of devotees on Friday evenings continued at the United Dongan Hill/ South Avenue Community hall uninterruptedly. The house at Victory Boulevard was demolished and a new building was constructed. Bhumi puja for this new building was held on March 26, 2004. It took two years to complete the construction and receive the Certificate of Occupancy. The inaugural Puja for the new building was performed on March 25, 2006.

All Sanctum Sanctorum for the main and sub-deities have now been completed. The presiding deities are Sri Ram Parivar and the sub-deities are Sri Ganapathi, Sri Siva, Sri Durga/Parvathi, Sri Karthikeya, Sri Hanuman, Sri Radhakrishna, Sri Lakshmi, Sri Venkateswara, Sri Saraswathi, Sri Ayyappa, Sri Mahavira, Shri Navagraha and Shiva Linga. Message From the Chairman

Dear Devotees,
Let me first wish you all A Very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2015.
Ever since our First Pranaprathista in the year 2007, over the 7 years, our temple made a great progress in providing the much needed spiritual needs of our local community in Staten Island. Over the past years , we have celebrated all important festival in the most auspicious manner and it was well received our community at large. Currently we are all set with the sequence of festivals and events celebrating each and every one of them with revered devotion and joyously.

Besides we also had religious discourses and lectures by eminent scholars and pundits to share their wisdom, thoughts and sense of religious direction. These events provides the much needed thought provoking insight into our religious beliefs and faith, thus laying foundation for a stronger belief and it's essence in guiding in one's life according to our Hindu faith.

The temple has also other programs such as Purna Vidyalaya for children to give them insight of our Hindu religion, dancing classes for children, Yoga classes for adults and other community events. Temple also organizes and support cultural programs in which many eminent classical singers and dance performances are conducted for the benefit of the community members. Couple of months back, temple supported a women dance group from Bengaluru, India, who are fully blind performed an excellent dance program at the temple.

This is exactly the background and vision with which we all came together to build the temple and now we are enjoying the fruits of our efforts by having our sacred temple in the middle of the Staten Island community. We have begun the great journey and the future of our temple lies in our constant effort to carry on the activities of the temple more efficiently depends upon every one of us.

In the years to come, I am sure, the temple devotees and the communities will continue their great support to our temple. May the Blessings of Lord Rama be always with us.
